CEDAR CREEK COMMUNITY

Greetings!

We have been monitoring Richland County’s new comprehensive plan for more than a year. The plan will be presented to County Council at its  May 3 meeting. There will be a separate public hearing during which individuals can make comments. We do not yet know the date or time.

The comprehensive plan is a guideline to show development and protection of land. It is required by law every 10 years. It is not zoning, although new zoning classifications likely will follow after council passes it. Nothing in this plan changes our zoning now, but we all need to be familiar with what the county is thinking and continue to monitor progress on the plan and zoning.

The planners have created a “Countryside” land use that seems to fit our community, and the majority of the community has the Countryside designation. The land use map does not have all roads, so it is difficult to see exactly where the lines run but likely are along school district lines.

Here is the new county website with information about the comprehensive plan.

If in the Columbia area there are some very interesting homes, gardens and walking tours. They are all located within a short distance of each other. One of those tours is the African American History Tour.
